Hi there, welcome. This is a blog I'm starting to talk about various in depth thoughts and topics involving playing Captain Falcon in the game Super Smash Brothers Melee (SSBM).
For those of you that are not familiar with Melee, let me introduce you to this incredibly deep and competitive game. On December 3, 2001 Super Smash Brother Melee was released for the Nintendo GameCube.
The game Is at its most basic level a multiplayer fighting game featuring famous Nintendo characters, such as Mario, Donkey Kong, and Pikachu. The game was designed as a casual game for four people to play together at parties and duke it out using their favorite characters.
But as time went on, people began playing the game and discovering more about Melee's gameplay mechanics. They quickly realized that this game has a lot more to it than meets the eye. Numerous amounts of advanced techniques have been discovered and utilized by players all over the world to gain an edge against their opponents in 1v1 matches.
Tournaments began being held for players to come and prove their skill against the best in the world. And, to this day, 14 years after its initial release, and despite the game not being designed to be played at a competitive level, Melee is thriving. With major national tournaments reaching well over 900+ entrants, and local scenes reaching around 80 for monthly tournaments. For the forseeable future, Melee is not going anywhere. And as long as people are playing it, I doubt it will.
So, with that being said, this blog is going to be about my thoughts about playing the character that I play, Captain Falcon. I will discuss things I think are relevant to advancing the characters metagame and performing better at tournaments.
